Located in the foothills of the Shenandoah Valley, Kathy’s Restaurant, is nestled on a busy corner of Greenville Avenue in historic Staunton, Virginia, just 40 miles west of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and minutes from Woodrow Wilson’s birthplace and the Shenandoah Shakespeare Blackfriars Playhouse.

Kathy’s Restaurant serves home cooking that reflects the food, people and culture of Kathy’s childhood and is reminiscent of many of our childhood experiences around the dinner table, especially for those of us who were fortunate enough to grow up in the valley and mountains of Virginia.


Kathy opened the restaurant in the spring of 1986 in Staunton, Virginia. The restaurant has its own particular personality that carries the flavor and flair that has made Kathy’s a success for almost 40 years.

Her History & Restaurant Philosophy:
Born in 1952 in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, Kathy had an entrepreneurial outgoing spirit from the start, and of course, a love of the people and the food of the Kathy with FoodShenandoah Valley. Kathy was raised on simple, fresh and homemade food and dinner around the table was always a place to share your day’s experience.

One of the Shenandoah Valley’s great finds is located in Staunton. Known as the restaurant “so good” she put her name on it, Kathy’s is located at 705 Greenville Ave.

Everyone knows that when you find out where the locals go….that is the place to be! With over 40 years at this location, locals and tourists will tell you that a better pancake cannot be found. Kathy’s offers an extensive breakfast menu which is served all day, along with daily lunch specials, a great lunch and dinner menu is also offered. Real food, real people, a real delight! Be sure to pickup a bag of the pancake mix as you leave.

The readers of Virginia Living Magazine Best of Virginia 2013 have voted Kathy’s Restaurant as having the Best Breakfast in the Shenandoah Valley Region.

That experience of childhood culture and meal making has led her philosophy in building her restaurant business. Kathy is more than a great restaurant with fresh, authentic food from the Valley, it is a gathering place for folks all over the valley to come and enjoy good homemade meal, just like mom used to make. It is a place where everyone from doctors, to teachers, to families, and factory workers can all join together to talk about life in the valley.

Kathy’s signature is her breakfast, which is served all day. Since the day Kathy opened the doors of her restaurant, she has been known for her outstanding pancakes which have received rave reviews by not only the locals but travelers from all over the world. The restaurant is also known for its homemade sausage gravy and biscuits, a dazzling array of omelets, and fruit filled roll-ups. Of course, a homemade southern breakfast wouldn’t be complete without home fries. Kathy’s serves them deep fried or grilled with onions. Either way, you don’t want to miss them!

Along with her famous breakfast, Kathy’s is also known for her great lunches and dinners which include everything from Southern Fried Chicken to Fresh Fried Oysters to Hamburger Steaks and an assortment of fresh vegetables including pinto beans, okra, mashed potatoes and other staples in home cooking.
